The photographer’s saturated color runs through one of Japan’s oldest hot-spring towns until February 2027.
In Matsuyama, the photographer and film director Mika Ninagawa, working with the creative team EiM, has wrapped Dogo Onsen – one of the oldest hot springs in Japan – in color. The DOGO ART installation runs through February 28, 2027 across the bathhouse district, and for the warmer months it adds a projection mapping on the main building.
What’s On
The works are set around the Dogo Onsen Honkan, the Tsubaki-no-yu bathhouse and the entrance to the Dogo shopping arcade. A second phase, added in April 2026, brought a courtyard installation at the Asuka-no-yu annex and a projection mapping on the west face of the Honkan, shown every 30 minutes between 19:30 and 21:30 through August 31, 2026. The project also runs its own official shop.
How to Visit
The district is compact and easy to walk, and the installations sit out in public view. Bathing and facility use are charged at the usual rates.

Planning Your Visit
Dogo Onsen is a short tram ride from central Matsuyama, itself a natural stop on a loop around Shikoku. Pair the art with a soak at the Honkan, the hillside Matsuyama Castle, and the city’s literary history. Because the installation runs into 2027, it suits almost any season.
