Cherry Blossom Spots
Kokura Castle
Kokura Castle is one of Kitakyushu’s most iconic cherry blossom spots, where around 300 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino, bloom spectacularly around the castle tower.
The contrast between the historic castle and the soft pink blossoms is quintessentially Japanese, and in the evenings, the area is illuminated, creating a magical and atmospheric scene.
It is a place where you can enjoy both the charm of a traditional castle town and the beauty of spring at the same time. You can also enjoy food and drinks purchased from nearby restaurants or casual food stalls around the castle, making it easy to relax and enjoy the cherry blossoms at your own pace.
Access: About a 15-minute walk from JR Kokura Station, where the Shinkansen stops
Admission: Entry to the castle tower requires a ticket (Adult: ¥350); cherry blossom viewing around the castle grounds is free
Shiranoe Botanical Garden
Shiranoe Botanical Garden is a hillside botanical park overlooking the Kanmon Straits, the narrow stretch of water separating the islands of Kyushu and Honshu. The garden is home to more than 700 cherry trees across approximately 60 varieties, including rare specimens said to be around 500 years old.
Thanks to the wide variety of cherry tree species, blooming periods vary, and there are even rare varieties that bloom from autumn through winter.
As official information is available only in Japanese, the garden remains relatively unknown to overseas visitors, making it a quiet, lesser known spot for enjoying cherry blossoms. While it takes some time to reach from the city center, the journey is rewarded with a peaceful, nature-filled setting where visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms at a relaxed pace.
Access:From JR Mojiko Station, take a Nishitetsu bus to Shiranoe 2-chome, then walk about 2 minutes.
Admission:300 yen (adults)

A well-maintained pedestrian walkway runs between Kokura Castle and the TOTO Museum, making it easy and pleasant to stroll while admiring the blossoms.
Rather than standing apart as a sightseeing spot, the cherry trees along the Murasaki River are woven into the everyday cityscape of central Kokura, offering a gentle spring atmosphere by the water.

Wisteria Spots
Kawachi Wisteria Garden
Kawachi Wisteria Garden is a world-famous wisteria destination that was selected by CNN as one of “Japan’s 31 Most Beautiful Places.”
The highlights include a large wisteria trellis covering approximately 3,000 square meters and two stunning wisteria tunnels measuring 110 meters and 80 meters in length. During peak bloom, cascades of purple, white, and pink wisteria create a dreamlike scene that feels almost otherworldly.
In spring, Kawachi Wisteria Garden is open only during the wisteria blooming season, and advance reservations are mandatory for all visitors throughout the entire opening period.

There are also rules and important points to note when walking around the garden, so please be sure to check the official website before your visit.
Advance planning and reservations are essential, but the wisteria scenery you can experience here is truly one of a kind.
