Welcome to Okayama Prefecture

Okayama Prefecture faces the Seto Inland Sea and is the gateway connecting Shikoku and Honshu. It is also known as the "Land of Sunshine" because it has more sunny days than most of the country. Within the prefecture, the beautiful Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, with its white-walled storehouses and willow-lined streets that remain from the Edo period, is popular with tourists from both Japan and abroad, but it is also gradually becoming known as the birthplace of domestically produced denim.
